The Merimbula Jazz Festival

Straw Boater Hat

I came across this interesting donation of a straw boater hat, adorned with various festival badges. Most of them being from the Merimbula Jazz Festival,  I felt compelled to learn a bit more about this particular event.

The Merimbula Jazz Festival held every June long weekend since 1981 is often referred to as the “Festival for Musicians”.  It involves around 150 bands, 700 musicians paying all styles of jazz from trad, ragtime, big bands, swing, mainstream, modern and funk.

The Festival includes a Street Parade, a Jazz Quest for the under 25’s, Jazz Breakfast and Jazz Hatters Party, with performances across 4 days and 6 venues. In 2016, the Committee has planned to add a Black Tie Ball, where jazz enthusiasts will be able to dance to great music played by an assembly of fantastic jazz musicians.

To anyone interested in attending next year, all the details can be found on www.merimbulajazz.org.au.
