Shol Quintet
Shol Quintet

The founding members of Shol, trumpeter Christopher Skepper and pianist Andrew Harrison, started as a duo in 2004 to explore and perform their original compositions ranging from free form improvisation to contemporary jazz and industrial soundscapes.

As the music evolved they brought in Chris Lewis to add rhythmic texture and solid groove and then in 2010 John O’Hagan joined to add to and extend the harmony. Chris Pappas joined the group in 2012, further expanding the frontline sound.

All the members of Shol compose music, contributing their influences from the varied music have performed over 20 or so years. The music has its roots in the band member’s first love of hard bop and free jazz and pays homage to 60’s and 70’s Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, Cecil Taylor, Mingus, Monk etc. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
